What is Unsupervised Learning?
Unsupervised learning – the training of an artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm using information that is neither classified nor labeled and allowing the algorithm to act on that information without guidance. Unsupervised learning algorithms can perform more complex processing tasks than supervised learning systems.
Unsupervised machine learning algorithms infer patterns from a dataset without reference to known or labeled, outcomes. - Latent variable models are commonly used for data preprocessing, such as reducing the number of features in a dataset (dimensionality reduction) or decomposing the dataset into multiple components.
The patterns you uncover with unsupervised machine learning methods may also come in handy when implementing supervised machine learning methods later on. For example, you might use an unsupervised technique to perform cluster analysis on the data, then use the cluster to which each row belongs as an extra feature in the supervised learning model.
